I remember when letters were hot and they still are. What is really trending now is words and typography. I am seeing them everywhere and on everything! I personally love the trend because I love quotes that are funny or inspiring and I especially love how one simple word can create an atmosphere or evoke a certain emotion. There are a lot of ways you can add them in to your decor and embrace the trend yourself. You can find them on art, wood, pillows, cork, made out of rope, on furniture and one of my favorites, on walls. A simple word on a wall or a wall of words, it’s your choice! A simple, yet complex word like love, displayed on a display table ,can be the focus of a lovely vignette when it is surrounded by photos of friends and family. Your home already reflects your personality and you can pop it up a notch and make some statements as well with the words you use. Here are some ways others have made their homes quote-worthy!

A little can go a long way or a lot can make a bold statement! I really love this trend in decorating and I hope it stays around a long time. In a way I think it is a sign of the times. A lot of people prefer to text than talk so I am a little out of trend as far as that goes. I prefer a good conversation. With life as fast paced as it is now we don’t always stop and say the things we mean or need to say. Perhaps if we add it to our homes it will be a daily reminder to say what we mean to say and to choose our words carefully.

I must confess I had never heard of Washi tape until I started seeing it on Pinterest and I am so thankful I did! These beautiful tapes originated in Japan and are made of papers made from using plant fibers such as bamboo, hemp, rice, wheat, the bark of the gampi tree or the paper mulberry. It then has acrylic glue added to it and becomes a product similar to masking tape because it can be removed from most any surface. There are so many creative ways it can be used and it comes in an abundance of beautiful designs. A quick google search will yield many sources for purchasing this beautiful tape. The tape averages about five dollars a roll and of course there are deals to be had if you search for them. I gathered some of my favorite ideas from Pinterest to get your creative juices flowing.
Dress up a light switch or electrical cover
Turn an ordinary letter in to something extraordinary
Give a door a custom look
Dress up your walls
Add some pizzazz to cards and business cards
Up cycle a tired and old lampshade
Create Washi frames for your treasures
Add some flair to clothespins
Give plain glass the wow factor
Dress up your walls when it’s time for a party
Add some color and pattern to a table runner
Create art or make a tray
give plain tea lights a pep up
Decorate your furniture
Add a bold graphic to a door
Add some pattern and color to a wall
As you can definitely see there are many ways to customize your home and accessories with Washi Tape. Have fun and be creative! You will end up with some amazing things that have YOU written all over them.
If your house is anything like mine at some point something has been broken. I can’t tell you how many times it has happened around here. My first reaction is always “OH NO”! You can turn that in to an “Oh Wow” with a little bit of time and creativity. I have been a fan of mosaics for a long time now and I am going to start doing some creative projects after the new year has begun. I am also a true believer in up-cycling and saving things from the landfill if possible. I have gathered some pictures from Pinterest on some of the many ways you can turn your broken dishes, glass, ceramics and pottery in to works of art. To be quite honest some of these ideas made me want to go and break something but there is no need for that! You can buy the pieces online if you don’t have enough and picking up mismatched plates at thrift stores and flea markets are a great idea as well. I have a ton of ideas flowing through my head on what I can make and maybe you will too after getting some inspiration.
I hope you have found some ideas that you could see in your home. I am getting excited about doing this I really love hands on projects. I found this great video on how to cut tiles from Mosaic Artist Karen Silton. I hope you enjoy!
Beadboard is one of those details that I could have in every room of my home in some way that I personally would never grow tired of. There are many ways you can bring in to your home and it adds a lot of charm and character rather inexpensively. There are many good how-to’s on the internet for installing it yourself and many companies now sell paper products that give you the look without having to install it. One of the trends I have noticed as well is using paper or installing it in patterns such as herringbone and chevron. This gives it a more contemporary and updated look. Many furniture companies incorporate it in to their designs as well and this is a great way to bring it in to your home if you don’t want it on your walls or if you rent and can’t make any big changes to the existing walls. A beadboard ceiling adds a lot of character and is so beautiful. Whether you opt for the classic white, painted or natural colored wood you can really adjust it to any kind of home decor and style. I believe it can look completely at home even in modern spaces to soften them up a little bit. I have gathered several images to show you different ways you can bring it in and to show how really versatile it can be.

There are so many beautiful ideas for transforming the walls in your home. You can find ideas everywhere and the internet provides a multitude of ideas and inspiration. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get some amazing looks that will go a long way in adding that special element that makes your room really pop. Sipping my coffee this morning I came across this video on YouTube form NEST TV, which is excellent, and I also looked to Pinterest for some inspiring ideas as well. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I also encourage you to check out more videos from NEST TV I have really enjoyed the ones I watched.
I have certainly come up with several ideas for my home and I hope you have as well. There are so many great ways to make your home uniquely yours. Hopefully I will be posting pictures soon of my own wall transformations. For now I will live vicariously through these.
One of my favorite trends in home decor is knits. They really soften up a space and provide warmth during the colder seasons and bring in that coziness that adds that special touch to any room. I prefer to use the softer, more neutral colors this time of year and as it gets warmer outside add those brights in as the seasons change. Pillows, throws and bedding are just one way to incorporate knits in to your home decor. With their popularity you can now find them in home accessories and furniture as well. I have gathered some beauties from Pinterest for you to see how they can bring a special kind of feeling in to your spaces. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I am currently wrapped up in a soft cable knitted throw I got from Target last year and oh my is it soft and warm!
As you can see knits will work with any type of decor and are a beautiful addition to any room. One of my favorite ideas was using a beautiful knitted throw as a tablecloth. These beautiful knits really say welcome, come in and stay awhile and relax. Hopefully you have been inspired to bring some of these beauties in to your home.
Browsing through Pinterest you can find a multitude of ideas for art on a shoestring budget. One of my favorite ideas is using fabric to personalize your space. This is even a less expensive endeavor if you have fabric scraps left from other projects that are not being used. Have you ever been to a fabric store or seen one online that you have fallen in love with but that is a little to pricey to buy a lot of? I know I have and this is great for that because a little can go a long way in getting a wow factor for your room. These ideas can also be carried out with scrapbook paper or gift wrapping papers.
There are many ways to frame the art from wrapping it on canvas, framing it in frames, wrapping it on shoe box lids or using old embroidery hoops. The possibilities are endless! Here are a few more photos I gathered from Pinterest for you to get inspired by.
The possibilities really are endless! This idea will work in any room of your home. I find that is an ideal way to create art for a child’s room or a nursery. As they grown you can change it up to suit their current style without having to invest in costlier artwork. This is also a great way to change things seasonally as well. I hope you have been inspired to get creating some personalized artwork of your own. I know I will be making some masterpieces of my own very soon.
